Moving across state lines means navigating federal DOT regulations, different state permits, and carrier compliance requirements. We handle every bit of it so you don’t have to.
What's Included
Interstate moves are a different animal than local relocations. The moment your belongings cross a state line, federal regulations kick in. Your carrier needs a valid MC number, proper insurance minimums, and compliance with FMCSA operating authority. Most people don’t know this — and that’s exactly how unlicensed movers take advantage of them.
When you book through Quick Ship Van Lines, we verify every regulatory requirement before a single box is loaded.
Your single point of contact from booking through delivery. They verify carrier compliance, track your shipment across state lines, and handle any regulatory paperwork that surfaces during transit.
Every carrier assigned to your interstate move holds active USDOT registration, a valid MC number, and meets minimum federal insurance thresholds. We verify these credentials before every single move.
Interstate moves involve fuel surcharges, state-specific tolls, and varying labor rates. We factor all of it into one binding estimate so there are no surprises when your shipment crosses state lines.
We pick up at your current address and deliver to your new state. No terminal transfers, no warehouse stops, no re-handling of your belongings between carriers.
Your coordinator provides status updates as your shipment moves through each state. You’ll know when it crosses state lines, when it’s approaching delivery, and exactly when to expect arrival.
Interstate shipments are covered under federal cargo liability requirements. Released value protection is included at no cost, and full value protection is available as an upgrade.
What to Expect
Step 01
We assess your move details, determine which state regulations apply, and build a binding estimate that accounts for route-specific costs including tolls, permits, and fuel surcharges across every state your shipment will cross.
Step 02
Your coordinator verifies the assigned carrier’s USDOT status, MC authority, insurance certificates, and safety rating. We confirm all interstate permits are current and your move is fully compliant before pickup day.
Step 03
Your carrier loads at your origin address and begins the interstate route. Your coordinator tracks the shipment through each state crossing and provides you with milestone updates along the way.
Step 04
Your carrier delivers to your new state address. You walk through the inventory together, note any concerns on the bill of lading, and sign off. Your coordinator follows up within 48 hours to confirm everything arrived as expected.
Prep Checklist
Six things our coordinators tell every client. Do these before pickup day and your move will go a lot smoother.
01
The less you move, the less you pay. Donate, sell, or toss what you no longer need.
02
Create a detailed list of valuables with photos and serial numbers for insurance.
03
Snap pictures of cable layouts before disconnecting so reassembly is painless.
04
Toiletries, medications, chargers, and key documents you'll need on arrival.
05
Make sure both addresses are accessible for a moving truck — narrow streets, low bridges, etc.
06
In dense cities, secure loading zones in advance at both pickup and delivery.
FAQs
Interstate moves cross at least one state border, which triggers federal FMCSA regulations. Your carrier must hold a valid Motor Carrier (MC) number, maintain minimum federal insurance levels, and comply with hours-of-service rules for drivers. Local or intrastate moves are regulated at the state level with different requirements. When you book through Quick Ship, we ensure full federal compliance on every interstate move.
No — that’s our job. Interstate carriers must maintain operating authority through the FMCSA, and certain oversized shipments may require additional state-level permits. Your coordinator verifies all permit requirements before your move begins so nothing holds up your shipment at a weigh station or state border.
Transit time depends on distance. Moves under 500 miles typically take 3-7 business days. Moves between 500 and 1,500 miles take 7-12 business days. Cross-country interstate moves over 1,500 miles may take 10-14 business days. Peak season (May through September) can add 2-3 days to these estimates.
Interstate moves fall under federal jurisdiction, not individual state law. Claims are governed by the Carmack Amendment, which is a federal statute that holds carriers liable for loss or damage during interstate transport. Your coordinator guides you through the federal claims process if any issue arises.
Most carriers in our network require a minimum shipment weight of 2,000-3,000 lbs for dedicated interstate moves. If your move is smaller than this, we can arrange a consolidated shipment where your belongings share truck space with other shipments heading the same direction — which also reduces your cost.
